As the lead Physician of the Medical Bariatrics program at Sentara Comprehensive Weight Loss Solutions, Dr. Caren Beasley specializes in treating obese patients with serious medical complications. Her evidence-based approach integrates behavior modification with specific dietary and exercise guidance which are completely customized to the patients’ individual health needs. When patients are seen at Sentara Comprehensive Weight Loss Solutions, they are equipped with the knowledge and skills to make lifelong changes while improving comorbidities such as type II diabetes and coronary artery disease, reducing the patients’ risk of heart attack, stroke, and many other illnesses. Dr. Beasley is a member of American Academy of Family Practice, American Society of Bariatric Physicians and The Obesity Society.

Ninoska Peterson, PhD
Bariatric Psychologist
Dr. Peterson earned her Master of Science in Exercise and Sport Sciences at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL, in 2004, along with a PhD in 2010. She completed her clinical psychology internship at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL, in 2009 and completed her behavioral medicine fellowship at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA, in 2012.

Dr. Peterson’s role at Sentara Comprehensive Weight Loss Solutions is to provide psychological evaluations for potential bariatric surgical patients and provide psychological support for medical and surgical patients at various stages of their weight management program. The goal is to ensure each patient not only has quality medical care, but that their emotional needs are served as well.

Dr. Peterson is a licensed clinical psychologist. She is a member of the Virginia Bariatric Society, the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Society, the American Psychological Association and the Society of Behavioral Medicine.

Dr. Peterson enjoys spending time with her husband, traveling, dancing, reading, and watching collegiate and professional sports.

Valerie LeGrone,
ANP-BC, CNOR
Ms. LeGrone earned her Master of Science in Nursing degree at the University of Texas in Arlington, TX, in 2003 with a major in adult nursing and a minor in nursing education. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA, in 1991. Ms. LeGrone’s experience includes nursing, clinical instructor and teacher. She is highly trained to diagnose, assess and treat patients while working in close collaboration with physicians. Further, Ms. LeGrone has taught in the nursing programs at the University of Texas at Arlington and Old Dominion University before accepting a nurse practitioner position with Sentara in 2006. Ms. LeGrone is certified as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and is a member of the Virginia Bariatric Society. She has been working in the field of bariatrics since 2010.

Lori L. Epstein,
MSN, FNP-C
Ms. Epstein earned her Master of Science in Nursing/Family Nurse Practitioner degree at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA, in 1995, along with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in 1991.

Ms. Epstein joined Sentara Comprehensive Weight Loss Solutions to expand her commitment to helping patients by working with them to reduce disease through weight loss. She has practiced as a nurse practitioner in family medicine with an interest in weight loss management. Ms. Epstein’s nursing background includes cardiac care, medical/surgical care, intensive care for newborns, and pediatrics. Her range of experience has given her the ability to adapt quickly and readily connect and partner with patients – no matter their healthcare goals. She is dedicated to quality care, and ultimately helping each patient attain a healthy quality of life.

Ms. Epstein is certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and is licensed as a nurse practitioner and registered nurse in Virginia. She is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
